The Gastroenterology Foundation is privileged to be part of the ASSA-SAGES congress and invites all congress delegates to attend. Topics to be covered include:
- Why research is important and how to do research with minimal resources
- Patient-related end-points in a clinical trial (how to pick a sample size, primary end points, composite end points….)
- How to write an abstract for a meeting
- How to get your paper published – from the perspective of an editor – what he looks for and what he doesn’t want to find!
The session is aimed particularly at new researchers although experienced researchers are welcome. The session will be informal and interactive and the members of the audience will have ample opportunity to ask questions or raise specific problems for the panel to address.
The Gastroenterology Foundation strives to advance research in South Africa, particularly among younger gastroenterologists and hepatologists, including those still in training. The Foundation is also acutely aware of the importance, in a country such as ours, of collaborative research endeavours and sees the need to encourage this type of research.
There is a Gastroenterology Foundation prize to be awarded to the best work presented by a gastroenterology trainee at the annual SAGES congress.
In addition, this year the Foundation is hosting a special evening just for gastro trainees –
